Globe valves are the best choice for industries used to regulate flow. When installing the valve, you should check whether the device process has no jamming and must be flexible. Side by side installed in the pipeline globe valve should be operated, maintenance, disassembly, and installation of space location.
The globe valve working process from the working floor must be about 1.2m. It should be set to shut off the valve operating platform when the base of the hand wheel is more than 1.8m. Cut-off valve more pipeline help the installation of the valve for easy processing. The average distance between the hand wheel does not exceed 100mm.
Globe Valves
A globe valve is a globular structure valve with inside globe-shaped valve plates. Globe valve is used for manual or automatic operation. They have been used in industry and very in the fluid system. The structure of the valve plate depends on the functional design and the control.
Globe valves are unbent movement valves used to regulate the flow’s start or stop, referred to as a disc. The globe valve disk can fully close the flow path completely. The seat opening alters the travel of the disc, which is ideal for flow regulation. Globe valves are most suitable and often used for throttling employed in piping.
They are widespread due to the following characteristics:
- Long service life
- Control the flow of the fluid passing control valves with a special valve
- They can be open any degree from full open to full close.
- A small valve lift is required to attain full flow
- A change in the fluid flow movement can be done in angular valves.
What do you need to do before the globe valve install?
Globe valve before installation
Before installation, you should carefully examine the direction of the flow of media. Media flow can only be consistent with the arrow on the valve body. You should check the globe valve sealing surface and channel. If you can see the dirt attached, clean it with a soft cloth to wipe it away.
The pipeline has to be installed so that bending forces during installation are kept away from the valve bodies. This is to prevent leakages of the body. Before installation, the cover caps have to be removed from the flanges. The flange facings must be clean.
If in air-conditioning, cooling systems or any condensation water will cause the icing or freezing of the whole valve. If necessary, the handwheel is not present, which will cause a blocking of the valve operation.
How is the globe valve installed?
Step 1: Install the globe valve on the pipeline
In the pipeline, when installing a globe valve, you should keep the axis of the globe valve parallels the pipeline.
You can make the axis parallel by following two ways:
The first way is to use a laser-level tool. If you have multiple valves, you can also use this technique that requires them to be levelled with each other. Mark each valve’s position on the pipe so that when it’s time, install them all again.
The second is to utilize a plumb bob. A plumb bob is a weighted string with an eye at one end. When you lower bob over the centerline of your pipe, your pipe is level
Step 2: Install the gasket on the valve’s flange with bolts and nuts
Install the gasket on the flange or screw of the valve with nuts. Then pull all loose ends of nuts by hand down to their positions, and then use a twist to tighten them. To control leakage, you must choose a gasket material according to the pipeline’s temperature, medium, and pressure.
Choose an air filter with at least one layer of fine filter paper on the upper side of the globe valve. The direction of the flow should be according to the arrow on the valve body.
Step 3: Tighten up all nuts
So, when installing, tighten all the nuts or bullets’ loose ends by hand to their relative positions. You can use a wrench to continue tightening ease. A torque wrench has other settings for different bolts, so you must set it according to the specifications. Don’t directly establish the globe valve with the gasket. The material of the gasket can be chosen according to the temperature and medium of pipeline conditions.
This aid in keeping everything together tightly without any gaps and maintaining proper alignment for each bolt during the installation process. Using a wrench to tighten nuts, the valve is installed in two pipes on each side of the handle. The nuts are tightened in clockwise order until they can’t be turned more. This process keeps all nuts tightened evenly from the center to the other side of the valve.
Step 4: Open the valve, and check the leakage
To check leakages and obstruction, you should use a pressure gauge. Place the gauge on the top side of the valve. If you find leakages, then tighten the nut until the leak stops. However, if your installation is difficult to solve, it is best to contact a professional for help.
If there is no leakage, then tighten the bolts or nuts half. This will help prevent damage to your plumbing system’s threads by over-tightening them; if no leaks are found, then happy! You have installed your new globe valve.
When you are done all the process, turn off all electrical power that may have been connected during installation. You should use your valve in the correct position. We recommend you open slowly to avoid any pressure changes affecting the system’s working.
How to choose a suitable globe valve?
Sealing material for the globe valve
1. Soft seal
For corrosion-resistant lined valves, the general soft seal valve refers to the seat of one of the two using mainly PTFE rubber materials. The soft seal valve sealing effect is the best. But in the pipeline installation, the system cleaning will likely leave debris. Therefore, the delicate seal design considers the pipeline’s cleanliness before commissioning.
2. Hard seal
Hard seals are the best selection for globe valves. This way of sealing considers reliability and service life and offers zero leakage. It also provides enough to meet the requirements of tight cut-off, and it is durable and more cost-effective.
What is the right size of valve to choose?
In determining the application, the globe valve size is a significant factor. It should be noted that the flow capacity will be greater if the valve size is larger. But, large-sized valves need high-strength materials to hold high temperatures and pressures.
Large-diameter single-body valves are used in high-temperature and low-pressure applications. Small-diameter valves are used for temperature and high-pressure applications. Average diameter body valves are used at medium temperature and pressure applications.
How to choose the valve body material of globe valves?
Globe valves are designed using stainless, carbon steel, brass, etc. The material of the globe valve choice mainly depends on its application.
Brass is an alloy of zinc and copper that avoid corrosion due to its intrinsic properties, such as electrical conductivity. However, brass will flake off over time.
Carbon steel is most often used for making globe valves due to its easy availability. Carbon steel can not be used for outdoor applications with moisture or humidity levels.
Stainless steel is another metal that can be used to make globe valves. Stainless steel does not rust easily, but it requires more maintenance.
What should you notice when a globe valve is used?
You should pay Special attention to the issues while installing globe valves.
For individual shut-off valves 1.8m in height, skills such as extension rods, movable platforms, and portable ladders are used. An extension rod should be installed when the shut-off valve is installed under the operational base.
The horizontal pipeline shut-off valve has a stem with good vertical up. You should not be installing the stem facing down for operation and maintenance. The floor globe valve installation position tilted will also work.
Summary
